The Western Pennsylvania Hospital
Since its incorporation in 1848 as Pittsburgh's first chartered public hospital, The Western Pennsylvania Hospital ("West Penn Hospital") has fostered a legacy of leadership and innovation in medicine. West Penn Hospital is nationally respected as a highly sophisticated, 512-bed tertiary medical center, providing comprehensive patient care in all major medical and surgical specialties. The hospital serves people in Pittsburgh and throughout the tri-state area of western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and northern West Virginia. West Penn Hospital, a member of the West Penn Allegheny Health System, is a non-profit hospital.
In July 2005, West Penn Hospital merged with Forbes Regional Hospital to establish a coordinated network of care for residents of eastern Allegheny and western Westmoreland counties. West Penn Hospital's Forbes Regional Campus is a 340-bed, community-based, full-service medical/surgical hospital located on 54 acres in Monroeville.
