Graduation

The Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing awards its diploma and pin to students who successfully complete all progression criteria.

Students must fulfill all financial obligations and other School responsibilities before graduating.

Graduate nurses are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).  Felonious acts may prohibit licensure in Pennsylvania as determined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Transcripts/Clinical Performance Summary

One free transcript is sent to graduates after they have completed all course and School requirements.

For additional transcripts, the graduate must send $3 and a signed request. Checks should be made payable to "The Western Pennsylvania Hospital." A transcript request will not be fulfilled if a student/graduate has outstanding financial obligations to the School or Hospital.

A summary evaluation is prepared on each student's clinical achievement. The summary is provided as a reference to designated agencies, persons or schools upon written request of the graduate.

Graduate Employment Data

Senior students receive counseling on career and employment opportunities available to registered nurses.

Graduates choose varied geographic areas for employment. Some have started their careers at institutions in the tri-state area, and some have been employed in other parts of the country.

Professional Organizations

Graduates enjoy free membership privileges in the Nurses' Alumni Association of The Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing during the year following graduation.

Upon receiving licensure as a registered nurse, the graduate is eligible for membership in local, state and national professional organizations.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programs

Graduates may apply to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program of Clarion University of Pennsylvania at the completion of their diploma education. Acceptance is based on availability of class space and meeting admission criteria established by Clarion University of Pennsylvania faculty. The articulated programs are equivalent to four years of full-time study.

An articulation agreement also exists with the LaRoche College Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion Program.
