The Western Pennsylvania Hospital has a long history of research, with a particular focus on clinical research to unlock the mysteries of illness and translate innovations to superior treatments for our patients.
Centers of research at West Penn include the following:
- Western Pennsylvania Cancer Institute
- The Clinical Research Services Office facilitates patient participation in hematology (blood disorders) as well as cancer trials.
- The Tumor Registry began entering cases in 1986 and now contains information on more than 11,000 patients with follow-up information on well more than the 90% targeted by the Commission on Cancer
Studies are also conducted by other groups at West Penn Hospital. West Penn Foot & Ankle Institute
is enrolling patients with diabetic foot ulcers for 2 sponsored studies:
- Tissue Repair Company ("Matrix") - A topical treatment for non-healing diabetic foot ulcers
- Innocoll Technologies - A topical treatment for moderately infected diabetic foot ulcers
