AKMC's 5th Annual Health Fair Recap

Alle-Kiski Medical Center and Destination Wellness held their 5th Annual Health Fair at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills in Tarentum, PA on
April 10, 2010. The health fair highlighted health and wellness experts from AKMC, local businesses, and organizations from the Alle-Kiski Valley. The event was a great success with over 60 vendors including one of the LifeFlight helicopters and an ambulance that participants were able to tour. Some of the highlights included a lecture titled "Childhood Obesity" by Hanna Schofield, Ph.D. from the Department of Psychiatry at Allegheny General Hospital, lectures on prostate, ovarian, and colorectal cancer, and a free skin cancer screening courtesy of the Allegheny County Health Department. Free screenings were provided by The National Kidney Foundation ™ for those at risk for developing kidney disease, and the AKMC Lab provided cholesterol & glucose screenings.
A variety of performances promoting the benefits of exercise and activity were held throughout the day. These included both exercise and dance demonstrations, including Tai Chi, Zumba® courtesy of Valley Points Family YMCA, Silver Sneakers® courtesy of Allegheny Valley YMCA, and Karate by C.S. Kim Karate. The dance demonstrations included ballroom dancing by The Dancer's Studio, western square dancing by Square One Club, and ballet, tap, jazz & hip-hop dancing courtesy of Dance Arts.
There was also lots of fun for the kids including appearances from Stuffee®, and Professor MiGooch from the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, Caricatures by Bob, and a Teddy Bear Check-up courtesy of the local Girl Scout Troop #20474.
Thank you for all the positive feedback, and we look forward to next year's event.
